After Elton John recently questioned whether "X Factor" can "cut the mustard," Simon Cowell launched into the singer again on Piers Morgan’s CNN program, which will be broadcast on Monday, March 14, 2011, the New York Post’s Page Six reports.
Cowell accused John of failing to nurture young singers, noting, "Well, look. This is somebody who charges what–a million dollars a private gig? Two million dollars, you know? I don’t know whether he’s concerned about himself. … But … they always bleat on that we’re not giving other people a chance."
Cowell added that John and singers who make millions from private performances should "Go and give it to a bunch of young musicians you care about, put them in the studio. Go and nurture them." He added, "They’re only worried about themselves."
As TVWeek reported previously, Cowell has said of why he has not considered John for a judging slot on "X Factor": “Well, he’s so grumpy nowadays, I mean, it would be like, he’d just be moaning the whole time.”
