Writer-director Martyn Burke (“Pirates of Silicon Valley”) is working on a drama for HBO about Russian spies living incognito in the U.S. during the 1980s, and it’s based on an episode from his own life, reports Deadline.com.

The article notes that when Burke was traveling in the U.S. with a documentary camera crew, the sound man was actually a colonel in the Soviet KGB, something that Burke wasn’t aware of at the time. The colonel later set up an operations base outside New York City, but was eventually caught, the story says.

The new project is tentatively titled "Reds."
