Letterman Receives Inaugural Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence; ‘Modern Family,’ ‘Daily Show’ Among Other Winners at Comedy Awards

CBS talk show king David Letterman received the inaugural Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence and Eddie Murphy was honored with the Comedy Icon Award at Viacom’s first Comedy Awards, held Saturday in New York, the AP reported.

"Modern Family" was recognized as best TV comedy series, while "30 Rock’s" Alec Baldwin and "Saturday Night Live’s" Kristen Wiig were named television’s best comedy actor and actress.

In the movie category, Tina Fey won best actress for "Date Night" and Zach Galifianakis won best actor for "Dinner for Schmucks."

“The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” was named best late-night comedy series.

On April 10, The Comedy Awards will be broadcast on Comedy Central, Nick at Nite, VH1 and TV Land.
