‘NBC Nightly News’ Wins February Sweeps, With ABC the Only Evening Newscast to Grow

"NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams" won the February sweeps among the three broadcast networks’ evening newscasts, drawing an average of 9.71 million total viewers during the period, reports TVNewser.com.

The program beat the second-place finisher, "ABC World News With Diane Sawyer," by more than a million viewers, with the ABC program drawing an average of 8.55 million viewers nightly, the story notes. But the ABC broadcast was the only network news program to grow year-over-year, with a 1% gain in total viewers, the story says.

CBS’s evening newscast was in third place with 6.29 million viewers and its year-over-year total viewer numbers dropped 4%, the story says. NBC’s total viewer numbers were down 10%, it adds.

In the key news demo of adults 25-54, the results were similar, with NBC on top (averaging 2.85 million viewers), ABC second (2.37 million) and CBS third (1.95 million).
