A major cable network announced today that it has hired a new executive vice president of marketing. Walter Levitt, who was most recently chief marketing officer for Canada’s Canwest Broadcasting, moves into the new job with Comedy Central.
The announcement was made by Comedy Central President Michele Ganeless. "Walter’s experience and pedigree are unparalleled. He has been masterful at building consistent brand messaging across multiple screens," Ganeless said. "We’re thrilled to have him bring his talents to Comedy Central, and are grateful that he holds no animosity towards the network that helped coin the phrase ‘Blame Canada.’"
Levitt will be based in New York and will report to Ganeless. He will oversee strategic and creative brand development for the network, along with consumer marketing and cross-business initiatives, the network said.
Said Levitt: "As a media marketer, the opportunity to lead the Comedy Central brand is a rare treat. I look forward to working with the talented team here. And, on behalf of all the citizens of Canada, I hereby officially pardon the network for that whole ‘Blame Canada’ thing."
