Nintendo’s handheld 3DS video console, which will go on sale later this month, is adding Netflix’s instant streaming service and a 3D channel that will air short-form 3D videos and movie trailers, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog.
The plans were announced at the Game Developer Conference in San Francisco and are part of Nintendo’s plan to help the device compete against Apple’s iPhone and iPad, the story notes.
The Nintendo device should be able to connect to 10,000 wireless Internet hot spots hosted by AT&T by late May, the story adds. The device will go on sale in the U.S. on March 27 for $250. It features two screens, one of which offers stereoscopic 3D images that can be watched without glasses.
