PETA is trying to pigeonhole former boxer Mike Tyson as one of the bad guys, reports the Los Angeles Times’ ShowTracker blog.
Tyson’s new Animal Planet television series featuring his foray into competitive pigeon racing has become the target of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA.
Members of PETA will protest outside of the gated Nevada community where Tyson lives, the article notes. "If Mike Tyson truly loved birds, he would fight for their protection — not force them into a ‘race’ that tears them away from their families and subjects them to injuries, exhaustion and death," said Lisa Lange, PETA vice president, in a statement.
Animal Planet didn’t have an immediate comment, the story says.
