A veteran producer is returning to CBS to take over “The Early Show” after the departure, announced earlier this week, of executive producer David Friedman after 16 months at the helm of the program, Broadcasting & Cable reported.

Taking over on an interim basis will be Batt Humphreys, who was a senior producer with the show for 15 years before leaving the network and the business in 2007 to write. He will take over the position May 16.

CBS News Chairman Jeff Fager and President David Rhodes have been steering “Early Show” in a more newsy direction, the story points out.
