Dr Drew Pinsky has tweeted an update on the condition of Jeff Conaway, the former co-star of "Taxi" who has been in a coma and who reportedly had an apparent drug overdose.

According to "Access Hollywood’s" website, " ‘Just visited Jeff Conaway,’ Pinsky tweeted Friday evening. ‘He is stable & looks like he will recover from his pneumonia. Not an OD like press is alleging & certainly not dead.’ "

The story adds, "When asked why Conaway’s manager had reported the actor was in a coma by a Twitter follower, the doctor/addiction specialist later answered that Conaway is ‘in an induced coma’ on a ‘Propafol drip.’ " “ ‘Pneumonia with supsis,’ he continued. ‘No evidence of intentional OD.’ "

The Los Angeles Times had originally reported that "Jeff Conaway, who gained fame from his roles in the film ‘Grease’ and the TV series ‘Taxi’ before succumbing to substance abuse that landed him on reality shows dealing with rehabilitation (‘Celebrity Rehab’ and ‘Celebrity Fit Club’), is in critical condition following an apparent overdose."

The Access Hollywood story also notes that previously Conaway’s manager "Phil Brock said the 60-year-old actor was found unconscious on May 11 and had been hospitalized in critical condition. Brock added that Conaway was in a coma in a California hospital and his recovery was uncertain."

Furthermore, Dr. Drew’s tweets appear to contradict what Brock told People Magazine last week, " ‘Over the weekend, there was head movement, but there have not been any changes in his movement or condition since then,’ he said. ‘We are concerned it may have been an overdose but we have no way of knowing for sure.’ "

  1. You don’t suppose famed medical expert Dr. Drew meant pneumoia with “sepsis” (a toxic condition resulting from the spread of bacteria or their toxic products), rather than with “supsis” (which doesn’t appear to mean anything), now do you?
