Academy Award winner Kevin Costner will star in History’s miniseries about the most famous family feud in U.S. history, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker blog.

"The Hatfields and McCoys" will likely debut in 2012 and will be produced by Leslie Greif, who is co-creator of "Walker, Texas Ranger," the story notes.

The Hatfield-McCoy feud started in 1865 after a member of the McCoy family, which had mostly sided with the Union in the Civil War, was murdered by a group of former Confederate soldiers, with one of them said to be "Devil" Anse Hatfield.

Costner will play Devil Hatfield, who the story says is now believed to have been home sick when the killing happened. The murder began a 25-year feud that led to more killings, the piece notes.
