Tennis pro Anna Kournikova–who was named to People’s list of the 50 most beautiful people four times–is joining NBC’s "The Biggest Loser" as its new celebrity trainer, reports The New York Times’ Media Decoder blog.
NBC made the announcement during the Tuesday night finale of the show, saying that she will replace trainer Jillian Michaels on the program.
Kournikova’s hiring is part of a revamping expected for the show next season, with executive producer Todd Lubin telling New York Magazine’s Vulture blog that the show is "getting slightly away from just the tape measure, and getting into overall well being and health. That’s where "Loser" needs to go."
Lubin said the show rejected trainers who sought to imitate Michaels’ style.
Kournikova has appeared on the show before, surprising contestants in the show’s 10th season with a tennis-themed workout, the story notes. Lubin liked her motivational style so much that he considered developing a show for her, but then changed his mind and asked her to join "Loser," the piece notes.
