After he called a commentator a “slut,” an MSNBC talk show host was suspended for one week without pay by the cable network, reports Bill Carter in The New York Times’ Media Decoder blog.

One his syndicated radio show, Ed Schultz twice called conservative commentator Laura Ingraham a slut while speaking about remarks Ingraham had made regarding President Obama’s European trip, the story says.

“Remarks of this nature are unacceptable and will not be tolerated," MSNBC said in a statement. Ingraham had criticized Obama on "Fox & Friends" Tuesday for drinking a Guinness in Ireland rather than flying to the tornado-wrecked city of Joplin, Mo., citing his behavior as tone deaf, the piece notes.

Schultz responded by criticizing Republicans and then directed a personal attack against Ingraham, including, “Like this right-wing slut, what’s her name? Laura Ingraham. Yeah, she’s a talk slut," the piece notes.

MSNBC said it met with Schultz on Wednesday afternoon and that the network "accepted his offer to take one week of unpaid leave.”

Ingraham said in a Twitter message Wednesday night, “MSNBC suspends Schultz. Oh great, now his ratings will go up," the piece notes.

  3. Can’t wait until Comcast dumps MSNBC.

  4. Yes, he misspoke, but not by much. He should have first said she is a “talking-head news slut” instead of “slut” in general; the former having a very particular meaning, as in “takes any bit of news that comes from her hyper-conservative sphere as truth without checking the facts.” Any talking head (conservative or liberal) that behaves in such a way is a news slut.

  5. I can’t wait until everyone with a brain dumps Comcast..Comcast SUCKS!
