The fact that there’s a shrinking TV audience for horse racing was evident Saturday with the Nielsen ratings for the Preakness down 6 percent, reports SportsNewser.com.
The second jewel in the Triple Crown of racing earned a 6.0 for the race segment of the NBC coverage, the lowest overnight rating for the Preakness in 11 years.
The race itself was exciting, as Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom lost to Shackleford by just half a length.
At Pimlico, the Baltimore race track that hosts the Preakness, there was a different story. The race had the sixth-largest crowd ever, with 107,398 race fans in attendance.
