National Public Radio has finally announced who will replace the retiring Liane Hansen as the anchor of NPR’s "Weekend Edition Sunday."

It will be Audie Cornish, who has been an NPR reporter and substitute host on the network since 2006.

Hansen, who has been hosting "Weekend Edition Sunday"–featuring its signature Weekend Edition Puzzle with Puzzlemaster Will Shortz–for more than 20 years, will broadcast her final show on May 29, 2011.

According to the NPR announcement, "Ellen McDonnell, Executive Director of News Programming for NPR, said: ‘Audie is an outstanding journalist and a wonderful storyteller. Audiences will connect with her warmth, curiosity and humor. We’re thrilled she is taking on this new role.’

" ‘I’m honored and excited to follow in Liane Hansen’s footsteps,’ Cornish said. ‘She has made "Weekend Edition" essential in the lives of millions of NPR listeners.’ "
