Wednesday’s finale of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” drew a huge audience, piling up the show’s best household rating in more than 17 years, The New York Times reported in its Media Decoder blog.

The finale had a 13.3 household rating in major cities, more than twice the show’s typical audience, with 13.3% of all households with television sets tuning in.

It was the show’s highest household rating since 1994, when the TV landscape was vastly different, with fewer competing options available.

The figures are preliminary and will be adjusted after Nielsen collects additional returns.
