An Oscar-winning actress and reality show contestant who is having tax problems is opening up about the situation and offering insights into what it’s like to get by on the inconsistent income of an acting career.

Marlee Matlin owes $50,000 in back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service, something she says is “the reality that a lot of people in America are facing," reports People.com.

Matlin, who has appeared on "Celebrity Apprentice" this season, said that she doesn’t live in an extravagant way, but her career can make budgeting tough.

"Living modestly in a suburban neighborhood while trying to support four children through private school is not extravagant or living large," Matlin said. "My husband is a Los Angeles-area police officer, and between the two of us we have always made ends meet in the past–and we will in this circumstance as well."

Matlin said she’s working on a schedule to pay the IRS, the story adds.
