Shakeout Continues at NBC Sports

The sudden departure of NBC Sports guru Dick Ebersol apparently wasn’t the last casualty in what appears to be a shakeout of the sports division under the new Comcast regime.

Ebersol’s longtime second-in-command is expected to be the next to leave the company, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog.

Ken Schanzer, 66, has been president of NBC Sports since 1998 and will likely announce his retirement in the next few weeks, the story says. Given that he’s an Ebersol loyalist and has been hinting at retiring, the departure isn’t surprising, the piece notes.

As previously reported, the ouster of NBC Sports Group Chairman Ebersol is seen as a "not-so-subtle message" from Comcast to other NBCUniversal executives to either "get with the program" or leave.
