‘Taxi’ Star Losing Fight for Life; Family and Ex Battle Over Turning Off Life Support

Jeff Conaway’s family has made the decision to turn off the ailing actor’s life support machine, reports RadarOnline.com. But the former “Taxi” star’s ex-girlfriend reportedly has stepped into the fray and prevented the family from turning off his ventilator.

Conaway’s doctors advised the family that he is losing his fight for life and hasn’t had brain activity since he was admitted to the hospital, the story notes. The family had planned to turn off his ventilator Thursday afternoon, while his feeding tube had already been removed, the piece says.

However, Conaway’s ex, Vikki Lizzi, apparently has power of attorney, according to a living trust from 2007, and insisted that the hospital halt efforts to remove life support, the Daily Mail reported. The hospital was reviewing the information before making a decision.

Conaway, 60, a star of the classic TV series "Taxi" and the movie "Grease," was hospitalized May 11 for what was suspected to be a prescription drug overdose, the RadarOnline piece notes.

  1. This story emphasizes the importance of setting up an Advanced Health Care Directive in California and also choosing your Agents carefully. Hopefully a court conservatorship and possible battle will be avoided in Jeff Conaway’s case if his documents were properly prepared. My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved.
