Why Did Talks Break Down Between Couric and CBS? Two Sides Have Differing Opinions

The two sides are offering different versions of why negotiations appear to have broken down between Katie Couric and CBS Television Distribution in efforts to create a syndicated talk show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Couric allegedly had too much of a focus on news during her negotiations with CBS TV Distribution, which is being cited as a key reason the talks broke down. Couric wanted a relationship with CBS’s news division, which made CBS Television Distribution executives wonder whether she was committed to 35 to 39 weeks a year of original programming on a talk show, the story says.

However, according to Couric’s side, CBS allegedly grew frustrated when she didn’t quickly accept its offer and became more upset when news leaked that she was talking with ABC, the story says.

Although technically nothing is final, Couric appears to be headed to ABC, the story says. Sources say CBS has the right to match ABC’s offer until Couric’s contract expires June 4. Although CBS took its talk show offer off the table, the sources say it would still be interested if Couric were to come back to the table.

  1. CBS apparently came to its senses. Couric is not well-liked anymore. She lost her common touch when she started caring too much about how well-read she was. The new Couric vehicle will be a bigger disaster and CBS will be glad they walked away.
