After a story in an Italian magazine in which Patrick Dempsey revealed that next season’s "Grey’s Anatomy" would be his last, the actor clarified his comment, saying that he isn’t necessarily leaving, according to E! Online.

Dempsey’s press rep told E!, "He was referring to the fact that his contract is up at the end of next season and we have no idea what the future holds."

The clarification came after Dempsey was quoted in the Italian edition of Vanity Fair saying the show’s upcoming eighth season would “be my last. … I do not know what’s going to happen to the other characters, but for me it’s done.”

Dempsey isn’t the only star who may be leaving after season eight; Ellen Pompeo also has not been locked up. The actress told TVLine.com that none of the stars have been invited back after season eight.
