Viacom Sues Cablevision Over iPad Streaming

Viacom Inc. sued Cablevision Systems Corp. today in Manhattan federal court to put a stop to what Viacom says is unauthorized streaming of the company’s programming on tablets such as the Apple iPad, reports Reuters.

The suit was filed just a day after the revelation that Viacom and Time Warner Cable were working on a settlement in a separate dispute over iPad streaming, as reported previously.

“Viacom said Cablevision’s April 2 launch of a computer application to allow streaming of television programs through a cable modem to iPad tablets violates its agreement to distribute Viacom programing only on cable TV systems,” the Reuters story says.

Cablevision was expected to comment later today on the Viacom suit.
