With Rep. Anthony Weiner unlikely to be contemplating a big political campaign in the near future, media attention is focusing again on the possibility that “30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin will run for mayor of New York, Time reported.
Weiner was said to have his eye on the office, but the recent scandal over lewd photos and “sexting” would seem to take him out of the running, the story says. Baldwin, meanwhile, reportedly responded to the Weiner scandal with renewed interest in the mayoral campaign.
Baldwin has long been known to be interested in a political career.
An unknown source identified as a friend of Baldwin’s is quoted in the report saying, “Alec said, ‘Hey, maybe this changes the race. The dynamics have shifted.’”
A rep for Baldwin also reportedly said he “wouldn’t rule it out” when asked about the prospect of a Baldwin bid for the mayor’s job in 2013.
