Two Popular ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Cast Members in Place for Fall

Two of "Law & Order: SVU’s” most popular assistant district attorneys will be returning to the NBC program this fall, reports TVLine.com.

Actresses Stephanie March, who plays Alexandra Cabot on the show, and Diane Neal, who plays Casey Novak, will be back, the story says. The pair will return for an undetermined number of episodes during the show’s 13th season.

The actresses’ return comes as the show prepares to add two new cast members, Danny Pino and Kelli Giddish, and as Chris Meloni leaves the program.

  1. A correction is needed. The two actresses play prosecuting attorneys not defense attorneys

  2. I dunno – it seems like those two have to defend the detectives as much or more than they get to prosecute the alleged defenders. So, is season opener a Caylee Anthony “ripped from the headlines” story? Probably at least in the first half of the season.
It’s weird having SVU still doing so well (we’ll see how well it does with Meloni gone and Hargitay out for a significant portion of the season) and not having the original format for L&O on the schedule anywhere. Sure, we’ve got original L&O all over the place on cable and L&O:UK over on BBC America (it is produced by and runs on Channel 4 in the UK) but it’s just weird to not have that series still chugging along. The format is one that isn’t really tied to any one actor and it would survive without Jack McCoy – given the mess that NBC’s schedule is still in, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a revamped version of the original back on the schedule at some point. If you want to keep Waterston, maybe make him a Judge or a Federal Court Judge, adding more of that perspective.
Thinking about the foreign versions of the series – wouldn’t it be great if one of the many “crime” channels out there, Sleuth, Crime & Investigation, etc., would run subtitled versions of all the other versions of the series? They mostly rewrite scripts from the original L&O but adapt them to fit that country’s legal system, which I think would be fascinating to watch. Just watching the differences between the US version and the UK version are interesting.

  3. Thanks. We’ve made the correction.
