Discovery Puts New Network Chiefs in Place at Planet Green, Military Channel, Discovery Fit & Health

Discovery Communications has announced a high-level shakeup in its cable networks’ executive offices, Multichannel News reports.

The company created the new position of senior VP of content strategy at each of three networks, giving the positions to Marc Etkind at Planet Green, Ed Hersh at Military Channel and Rita Mullin at Discovery Fit & Health.

“Discovery said Laura Michalchyshyn, who had been president and general manager at Planet Green and also ran Fit & Health, resigned earlier this summer. Michalchyshyn joined Discovery in 2009 after being GM at Sundance Channel,” the story reports.

Etkind was VP of development at Animal Planet, another Discovery channel. Hersh was senior vice president of strategic planning for two Discovery networks: Investigation Discovery and Military Channel. He will continue in an advisory capacity at Investigation Discovery.

Mullin was VP of development at TLC.

Henry Schleiff, president and general manager of Investigation Discovery, Military Channel and Planet Green, also announced other changes. According to the story: “Schleiff also has promoted Sara Kozak to SVP of production at ID, Military Channel and Planet Green. She had been VP of production at ID and Military Channel. And Doug Seybert has been promoted to SVP of marketing for ID, Military Channel and Planet Green, from VP of Marketing at ID and Military Channel.”
