Chaz Bono, whose participation in this season’s “Dancing With the Stars” has been a lightning rod for angry Internet chatter, said he would avoid looking at Internet message boards after his debut on the show, reports EW.com’s Inside TV blog.

“It’s a good idea for everyone to stay away from them,” Bono, the show’s first transgendered contestant, said after the show. “Message boards generally attract people who want to be mean-spirited.”

Bono, the child of Sonny and Cher, was introduced as an author and activist on the show’s two-hour debut, the story says. He said he was focusing on having fun during the dance, which he performed with partner Lacey Schwimmer, at the end of the program.
