Hurricane Irene and its resulting power outages claimed the Nielsen television ratings as a victim in some markets, reports B&C.
With power outages throughout the East Coast, putting many Nielsen homes out of commission, local ratings for Hartford-New Haven and Providence are on hold, the story notes.
Markets including Boston, New York, Baltimore and Washington have had "data exclusions," which is a Nielsen term for an insufficient sample size, the piece notes. While most markets got back on track after a few days, Richmond-Petersburg stations lacked ratings until Sept. 2, while Hartford-New Haven and Providence ratings remain on hold, the story points out.
A Nielsen representative didn’t provide a target date for when the two dark markets would see ratings start up again. "We continue to monitor it, and we continue to work on it," the rep said.
