On what would have been his 75th birthday, one of the greats of the early rock ‘n’ roll era received a star Wednesday on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, TheCelebrityCafe.com reports.

Buddy Holly died at 22 in a plane crash in 1959, along with Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper, J.P. Richardson. He is considered one of the most influential recording artists of all time, with hits including “Peggy Sue," "Not Fade Away," "Rave On” and “That’ll Be the Day.” Holly influenced countless later rock artists, including the Rolling Stones and the Beatles.

Gary Busey, who played Holly on the big screen, was in attendance for the unveiling of Holly’s star, along with Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers and Holly’s widow, Maria Elena, making a rare public appearance.

  1. I thought the walk of fame was for movie stars, not famous people portrayed in movies.

  2. Never has been just for movie stars. It is for famous people in the broadcast, record, film and related industries who in some way connected with Hollywood.
