Discovery Pouring In Additional Millions to Promote OWN; Key Shows to Premiere Across Multiple Channels

Discovery Communications is investing additional millions to promote Oprah Winfrey’s cable network and to draw new viewers, reports the New York Post.

Discovery also plans to simultaneously air the debuts of two new OWN shows on five Discovery networks, the story notes. Those shows are "The Rosie Show," Rosie O’Donnell’s new talk show, and “Oprah’s Lifeclass,” Winfrey’s new personal educational series, the piece adds.

Discovery is running ads across all of its 14 cable networks leading up to the debuts and even buying ads on broadcast networks, the article says. The approach is what executives are calling a "reset" after OWN’s debut in January and months of weak ratings, the piece explains.

The Oct. 10 premieres of “The Rosie Show” and “Oprah’s Lifeclass” will be carried on TLC, Planet Green, Investigation Discovery and Discovery Fit + Health, along with OWN.

  1. Wow – looks like they’re going to pull out all the stops to try to save this turd – even forcing Rosie on to TLC, Planet Green, Investigation Fit + Health viewers (who will all simultaneously click away from Discovery nets for something more tolerable). Good nmoney after bad…
