NBC has given a script commitment to a family comedy starring Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr.

Most of us know him as Snoop Dogg.

The rapper will play the father in the project, reports Deadline.com, which was set up at Warner Bros. TV last month, the story says. The musician has been focusing on acting, including recently taking on the title role in the biopic "The Legend of Fillmore Slim," the story points out.

NBC has had mixed results with sitcoms starring rappers, earning success with "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" but experiencing what the story calls "a disaster" with its 2001 comedy pilot starring Sisqo and comedy legend Bob Newhart.
