One of the major broadcast networks has grabbed Roseanne Barr’s comedy project "Downwardly Mobile" with a script plus penalty commitment, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project is now at NBC, the story reports.
The ensemble comedy is set in a mobile home community and counts former "Roseanne" writer and executive producer Eric Gilliland as co-creator, writer and executive producer, the story notes.
The deal represents a network trend of returning to former stars, with Tim Allen of "Home Improvement" returning to TV with "Last Man Standing" on ABC, the story notes. NBC tried to gain some traction earlier this year with “The Paul Reiser Show,” a platform built around the former "Mad About You" star, although that proved unsuccessful, the story notes.
If it’s picked up to series, "Downwardly Mobile" would be Barr’s first sitcom since "Roseanne" ended in 1997, the story adds.
Yay! I’m a huge fan (still watch re-runs) of Roseanne’s old show so this is some pretty exciting news for me!
