A new ABC sitcom had a strong opening Tuesday night, up against CBS powerhouse “NCIS,” TVbytheNumbers.com reports.

“Last Man Standing,” starring Tim Allen, scored a 3.5 average rating in the 18-49 demo, a little shy of the 3.9 average for “NCIS.”

Numbers for Fox, which aired the American League Championship Series game between the Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers, were unavailable. But among the other networks, CBS wound up on top for the night with a 3.2 average rating in 18-49, ahead of ABC (2.9 average) and NBC (2.0). CBS also won total viewers with an average of 15.2 million to 13.0 million for ABC and 5.4 million for NBC.

The “NCIS” vs. “Last Man Standing” showdown took place in the 8 p.m. hour, where NBC ran the first hour of its two-hour “Biggest Loser.” The show averaged a 2.0 in adults 18-49 for the two hours. CW’s “90210” had a 0.7 average at 8 p.m.

At 9 p.m. CBS’s "NCIS: Los Angeles" just beat ABC’s "Dancing With the Stars" results show, 3.3 to 3.2, in the 18-49 demographic. CW’s "Ringer" netted a 0.8 in the same demo.

The 10 p.m. hour saw a close three-way battle in the 18-49 demo, with with CBS’s "Unforgettable" getting a 2.3 to NBC’s "Parenthood’s" 2.1 and ABC’s "Body of Proof’s" 1.9.
