An animated version of a movie franchise that has been scoring at the box office for several years is being readied for television, reports Deadline.com.

Lionsgate TV is shopping the project based on the "Harold & Kumar" stoner comedies, with several cable networks reportedly interested, including Comedy Central and MTV, the piece adds.

Original writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg have been tapped to write and produce, while John Cho, who plays Harold, and Kal Penn, who plays Kumar, will perform voice work as well as produce, the story adds.

The latest feature in the series, “A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas,” is now in theaters.
