Monday’s coverage of the conviction of Dr. Conrad Murray on an involuntary manslaughter charge in Michael Jackson’s death gave HLN a huge ratings bump, although all the cable news channels saw an improvement, reports TVNewser.com.

For the 4 p.m. ET hour, when the verdict was announced, HLN led all cable nets in the key news demo of adults 25-54, with 630,000 viewers in that group, the story says. Placing second in the demo was HLN’s sister channel CNN with 411,000, followed by Fox News with 367,000. MSNBC trailed with 134,000.

In total viewers, the numbers for the hour were close, with Fox News edging HLN. Fox News averaged 1.753 million viewers for the hour, with HLN drawing 1.736 million. CNN was in the ballpark with 1.364 million, and MSNBC pulled in 633,000.

HLN, which has been building a reputation as the home for high-profile trials, provided extensive coverage throughout the Murray trial, including airing the proceedings live.
