The latest bombshell allegation against Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain came from a local TV station, reports The New York Times.
The allegation was disclosed by Fox 5 News in Atlanta, the story reports. The station aired an interview with Ginger White, who claimed she had a 13-year affair with Cain in what she described as "a very inappropriate situation."
White said she was aware that Cain was married, the piece says. She showed Fox 5 News some of her mobile phone bills, which showed more than 60 calls or texts that she claimed were for Cain’s private phone, the story says. The most recent contact was in September.
The TV station said that it texted the number and Herman Cain called the station back. Cain said he "knew Ginger White" but denied the affair and said he had been "trying to help her financially," the piece adds.
Appearing on CNN, Cain said, “I have nothing to hide. I did nothing wrong.” He appeared on CNN on Monday morning to deal with the claims pre-emptively, The New York Times says. "I want to give you a heads-up and everyone a heads-up," Cain said on CNN, the story adds.
