NBC Yanks Comedy From Lineup, Shuffles Schedule

In a reshuffle of its midseason schedule, NBC is taking a comedy series off the air to make room for the return of "30 Rock" and a new comedy based on Chelsea Handler’s life, reports Joe Adalian at New York Magazine’s Vulture blog.

An NBC spokeswoman says “Community” is being placed "on the bench for a bit" and will return, although it’s unclear when, Adalian writes.

"30 Rock" is returning to Thursday evenings starting Jan. 12, while "Whitney" will move to Wednesday nights and "Up All Night" will receive the 9:30 time slot on Thursdays, the piece notes. Tina Fey’s "30 Rock" will take the 8 p.m. slot, currently held by "Community," the story says.

"Prime Suspect" has also been moved off the schedule, although the network said it hasn’t made a decision on its future, the piece adds. "The Firm," an adaptation of John Grisham’s novel, will move to its 10 p.m. time period on Thursdays.

NBC has also scheduled two reality shows, the returning "Who Do You Think You Are?" and the debut of "Fashion Star," a "Project Runway"-type show, the piece adds.

Starting Jan. 11, “Are You There, Chelsea?” will have the 8:30 p.m. slot on Wednesdays, following “Whitney.”

  1. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? is a returning show…third season on NBC. It’s not a debut. It’s a season premiere. Just FYI.

  2. Thanks — fixed!

  3. The most inventive and continually funny sitcom on TV today: that’s Community. And of course, it disappears. What’s with these idiots at NBC?

  4. I would have to agree with you Chris, this makes absolutely NO sense at all. Community is indeed the “most inventive and continually funny sitcom on TV today.”
