Star of Sleeper Hit Film Tapped for TV Comedy Project

The star and writer of a 2002 film that defined “sleeper hit” has been tapped to star in a comedy vehicle that’s being developed by ABC Studios for her, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Nia Vardalos, the star of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," will play as a morning show host in the project, the piece notes. Besides starring, Vardalos will executive produce and write, the story reports.

Vardalos has been featured on TV before, in CBS’s "My Big Fat Greek Life," which had a short run in 2003.

The movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” was one of the surprises of 2002, earning more than $240 million at the box office and being nominated for an Academy Award for best original screenplay.

  1. More surprising than the hit movie is that she is still getting work after all the subsequent flops.
