Disney Has Its Next TV Princess in the Pipeline — and She’s Not Like the Others

Disney is about to debut a new princess, and there will be a few twists in the character, reports The New York Times’ Media Decoder blog.

The princess will debut in a television movie, "Sofia the First," and she will be a girl, rather than an adult, as are Disney’s previous princesses, such as Snow White and Cinderella, the story notes.

"Sofia the First" will air on Disney Channel and Disney Junior, and will focus on age-appropriate themes such as getting along with siblings and being kind, the piece adds.

Disney hopes the new princess will generate consumer-products sales, as the Disney Princess toy line produces about $4 billion in retail sales each year, the story notes.
