Donald Trump Dumps His Republican Affiliation

Donald Trump is keeping his presidential aspirations alive by dumping his Republican Party affiliation and becoming an independent, reports CBSNews.com.

Trump made the move to "preserve his right to run [for president] as an independent after the finale of ‘The Apprentice’ in May," according to his special counsel Michael Cohen, the story notes.

The decision to switch parties comes after he dropped out of moderating a Republican presidential debate, with Republican officials questioning whether he should take on the role while still weighing a run for the White House, the story adds.
