“Deadwood” creator David Mlich, who’s on the verge of a January launch for the HBO series "Luck," has signed a new deal with the premium cable net to continue developing programming, reports Deadline.com.

As part of the deal, Milch will develop TV shows and movies based on the works of American literary giant William Faulkner.

Milch, who also created "John From Cincinnati" for HBO, is enthused about the Faulkner deal, which includes the scribe’s 19 novels and 125 short stories. Milch said in a statement: “I’m delighted to expand my longstanding relationship with HBO to encompass the adaptation of some of the most important literary works by any American writer into television films and series. As we embark on this ambitious project, our first commitment is to serve the material, and we look forward to identifying and collaborating with the best screenwriters and filmmakers to help each of the pieces find its ideal form onscreen.”

The new multi-year deal extends Milch’s relationship with the channel where he has already been based for eight years.

“We know that whatever David brings to the HBO table will be exciting and innovative,” said HBO president of programming Michael Lombardo.

  1. Holy cow! My day just got a lot better. “Deadwood” remains my favorite TV series ever, and the idea of the guy who brought us that parable of “Shakespeare in the mud” turning his eye to Faulkner’s material is very, very promising.
HBO just keeps coming up with ways to prevent me from going through with my threat to cancel. Kudos to all involved.

  2. HBO is the only reason I still have cable.
David Milch developing Faulkner for them is a reason to rejoice!
