Howard Stern Scoffs at Suggestion He’s ‘Only’ Making $20 Million for ‘America’s Got Talent’

Asked how much he’s making for his new gig as a judge on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” Howard Stern scoffed at the suggestion that it’s as “little” as $20 million, as has been reported.

TMZ.com reported that Stern’s response when a cameraman asked him about the $20 million figure was, “Do I work for that little?” The story notes that Stern has a five-year contract to do his SiriusXM radio show for $400 million.

NBC announced the signing of Stern late last week, along with the agreement to move production of the live shows to New York to accommodate Stern, as previously reported.

For his part, Stern says he is taking his new job seriously, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Stern spoke about his attitude toward the job while appearing on "Piers Morgan Tonight," hosted by his predecessor on "America’s Got Talent."

After NBC tapped Stern for the role, the Parents Television Council condemned the network for the choice, calling it "an act of desperation for a failing network," THR’s story notes.

"I guess they get their printer out and they make a letterhead and they start to complain that I’m some sort of weird pervert who is going to convert Americans into some kind of zombie sex fiends," Stern countered. He told Morgan that he will "be a very good judge" and that he takes the show "seriously." He added that he believed NBC chose him because "they knew I was honest," the piece adds.

The New York Daily News noted that Stern, who has a history of conflict with his bosses, was once fired by NBC. That incident happened back in 1985, when Stern was canned from WNBC, his first New York radio job.

The story reports: “’It’s a different company now,’ Stern said on his SiriusXM radio show Thursday. ‘It’s NBCU, not NBC.’ All the people he didn’t like then, he said, are now gone.”

  1. NBC got it wrong three times.
First, they considered hiring him. Two, they did hire him and three they intend to pay him.
Their legal teams will love the extra quarter-hours of charged time.
I guess ANY publicity is good for their badly bruised peacock.
Stern has for years deserved being locked in a sound proof “studio” with a microphone and a cable leading to no-where.
