NBC Clamps Down on ‘Jimmy Fallon’ Band After Michele Bachmann Incident

NBC has reportedly taken steps to avoid a repeat of an incident in which the house band on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" played an off-color song to introduce presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, reports the Associated Press.

The network now approves the songs to be played on the show, the story reports. Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson of the Roots, the show’s band, said he’s now "gotta clear a lot of the song choices" with NBC, the story says, citing an interview with the musician on Thursday.

As previously reported, the band played the 1985 Fishbone song "Lyin’ Ass Bitch" when Bachmann walked onto the stage during a recent show.

Thompson said he understands the decision, the story notes. "It was kind of wrong for me to throw (NBC) under the bus without telling them what it was, so I understand from a business standpoint," he said, according to the piece.

  1. It would nice if Questlove would understand why he was (more than kind of) wrong from a factual basis and from the standpoint of being crudely rude to an invited guest.
If he’s so keen on making political statements, he should start a blog. I would respect that.

  2. Yeah, and sometimes the truth hurts!

  3. I assume by “truth” you mean the fact that Questlove cares not whom he offends and why as long as he appears “hip” to his buddies.

  4. Who cares? Seriously, playing that song for her probably did more to gain her some sympathy and some slack from people who think just bat-s**t crazy. I actually give her and her campaign some credit (mark this date down with a red crayon – you won’t see me saying that about her or her campaign very often) for publicly deciding NOT to make a big deal out of it.
