A former ABC Studios executive has been named VP of original comedy series for the No. 1 cable network, Multichannel News reports.

Melanie Frankel joins USA Network, which aims to ramp up development of scripted half-hour programs, the report says.

The story reports: “She will focus on comedy development and production and report to Bill McGoldrick, USA’s senior vice president of original scripted programming. The network has already greenlit two comedy pilots, an untitled project from Douglas McGrath, starring Nathan Lane, and ‘Paging Dr. Fred.’”

Frankel was director of comedy at ABC Studios.
