Verizon Plans Stand-Alone Streaming Service to Take On Netflix

Dec 7, 2011  •  Post A Comment

Verizon is planning a stand-alone service for streaming television shows and movies that will challenge Netflix, reports Reuters.

According to sources who were briefed on the plan, Verizon is talking with programming partners about the service, which it aims to debut outside of its broadband and TV FiOS markets, the piece says. The new service would be introduced in 2012, the story adds.

It’s likely that the programming would be limited, perhaps with a focus on a package of movies similar to Viacom’s Epix, the story notes.
