Dog walkers made a grisly discovery near the iconic Hollywood sign: a plastic bag with a man’s head inside, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Local blog.
Police using a cadaver dog searched the spot for more clues, eventually finding two hands and two feet, the story reports. A homicide investigation has been started, and authorities were optimistic they would be able to obtain fingerprints and identify the man, the story says.
The discovery led to a massive search, with more than 30 Los Angeles Police Department detectives and other officers searching seven acres of Bronson Canyon Park below the Hollywood sign, according to the article. Police believe the killing took place elsewhere and the body parts were dumped near the sign, the story says.
