Ken Burns Unveils Next Project: a Documentary on One of America’s Worst Man-Made Disasters

Documentarian Ken Burns has announced his next project: a PBS documentary about one of the worst man-made disasters in U.S. history, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker blog.

That disaster is the ecological crisis known as the Dust Bowl, which will be the focus of a Burns project by the same name, the story says. PBS aims to air the documentary in November 2012.

The project will be narrated by Peter Coyote, a regular narrator for Burns, and will rely on interviews with people who lived through the crisis as well as Depression-era footage.

The Dust Bowl of the 1930s was created in some Midwestern states when overplanting and drought created huge dust storms that caused thousands of people to relocate to California.
