"Today" host Matt Lauer poked fun at rumors that "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest will replace him on the NBC morning show, according to the New York Post’s Page Six.

Lauer ridiculed the idea at the show’s 60th anniversary party, telling a crowd, "The people in the room right now, their names are so closely associated with the ‘Today’ show," according to the story. “Hugh Downs and Barbara Walters, Tom Brokaw and Jane Pauley, Deborah Norville, Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric … Ryan Seacrest," he noted, getting a big laugh from the crowd.

Lauer still has a "considerable" amount of time on his contract, the report notes. Talk about Seacrest replacing Lauer has been exaggerated, the piece adds, with the show’s management talking with Seacrest about potentially doing occasional appearances on the show, the piece notes.
