Fast national results from Nielsen for Tuesday night’s coverage of the Iowa caucuses in the Republican presidential primary show Fox News Channel well ahead of its competition in the ratings.

CNN was solidly in second place, with MSNBC third.

Figures for prime time, 8-11 p.m., show Fox News out front with an average of 684,000 viewers in the target news demo of viewers 25-54, followed by CNN with 486,000 and MSNBC with 303,000.

Similarly, Fox News led total viewers with 2.63 million, followed by CNN (1.31 million) and MSNBC (1.2 million).

For the late-night segment, 11 p.m.-3 a.m., Fox averaged 645,000 in the target demo to 347,000 for CNN and 228,000 for MSNBC. In total viewers it was 1.82 million for Fox News, 839,000 for CNN and 693,000 for MSNBC.

For the full block of caucus coverage, 7 p.m.-3 a.m., Fox News averaged 637,000 in 25-54, to 390,000 for CNN and 259,000 for MSNBC. Total viewers for the full block had Fox News with 2.15 million to 1.0 million for CNN and 932,000 for MSNBC.
