An Oscar-winning actress has signed on to play Ernest Hemingway’s muse in an HBO movie this spring, the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker blog reports.

Nicole Kidman will play Martha Gellhorn, Hemingway’s third wife, in “Hemingway & Gellhorn,” the story reports. Kidman, who spoke at the Television Critics Association press tour, said there are similarities between the role and her work as Virginia Woolf in "The Hours," for which she won an Oscar in 2003, according to the story.

"It was kind of a necessity in the journey of my career to find these women and tell their stories," she said. "I love these women that defy the odds and burn bright."

Hemingway will be played by British actor Clive Owen, the piece notes.
