The “Spartacus” drama franchise is back in business at premium channel Starz, with a solid opening weekend for the reconfigured series, EW.com’s Inside TV blog reports.
"Spartacus: Vengeance," with newcomer Liam McIntyre now in the title role, pulled in 2.7 million viewers for its opening weekend across several airings on the network. That’s on par with 2.8 million for last year’s prequel, "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena," the piece notes.
The series has gone through a period of uncertainty following the loss of Andy Whitfield, the previous series lead, to cancer, the story notes. Whitfield died in September at 39, as previously reported.
