Kelly Clarkson, the first winner of Fox’s "American Idol," has reportedly landed what may be the single most high-profile assignment a singer can get. She will be singing the National Anthem at this year’s Super Bowl, according to the AP.
Speaking confidentially, a source told the news service that the decision will not be confirmed until later this month.
Clarkson is one of the most successful singers of the past 10 years, having sold more than 20 million albums worldwide. Clarkson is presently touring, and appeared on "Saturday Night Live" last weekend.
The Super Bowl will take place in Indianapolis on Feb. 5, and will be broadcast on NBC. The halftime entertainment will be provided by Madonna.
